The Historic James Street Commons Condominion Association was officially incorporated in 1978. In the wake of high demand for dwellings in the heart of Newark's business district, the first completed modernized brownstone dwellings were sold via lottery.

The one block complete row of our dwellings were built by Peter Balentine for his top executives with identical artifacts and brickwork of the Historic Balentine House, which also still stands two blocks away as a popular tourist attraction.

Our aim up to the time all eighteen units were completed, sold, and occupied was and continues to be to keep the James Street Condominium Association running smoothly, its surroundings safe and appealing, and its property value reasonable and strong.
